I've been looking for people who can help with the issue of converting SFM to Maya, but so far, I simply haven't found anyone who knows how...

Maybe an alternate route will help:
SFM->"something"->maya

There's bound to be a chain you could go through to do it.

I'm kinda rusty, but here goes:

Pretty sure there was a plugin for earlier versions of Maya - remember fooling around with a homemade .bat in order to get Maya to launch with the stuff I wanted.

Alternative is to convert them using another program (Blender?) or a decompiler like mdldecompiler

Edit: Just as I hit "Submit" I remembered :D SFM -> mdldecompiler (mdl to smd) -> Maya with smd plugin. I hope things have gotten easier in the later versions.

Use crowbar to decompile a Source model, and you get .SMD reference files which can be imported with a third party plug-in to Maya. Alternatively, you could use an inbetween program like MS3D to convert SMD's to FBX files and then just import them to Maya.

Vaako, could you provide more details on this? And perhaps provide an example asset to XPadmin so that he can make a tutorial asset from it?

Someone said though that we can't even get the tutorial model into the game though. We need to find out what the hold up is on that, and mod the tutorial model into the game. Then we actually need to get a Maya converted Soria (who will most likely fall through the floor I'm assuming) and then figure out how to fully convert Soria to XSP compadiblity.

And then make an app to stream-line most of the process.

It was an oversimplification. We can TOTALLY get the tutorial model into the game. But we can't do anything with it because the tutorials aren't finished. Perhaps now that the new resource kit is out, this will change.
