just wondering if anyone has thought of this http://controlvr.com/ im sure the DEV's would be interested incorporating this, also they say DEV's can use this to do animating (motion capture) so a useful tool as well as a great way to interact in the game

$ 600.- for me says: "This will never be a mainstream success..."

All this virtual reality discussion reminds me of the good old times, when some people not only bought the complete Thrustmaster Joystick package, incl. feetpedals, but also started looking for Jet seats from jet fighter cockpits. SOME people... like... 0.000001% or so.

And considering how long the talk about virtual reality already goes on, I expect a mainstream solution to hit the shelves in the next 25 years...

well on top of my $3000 pc ive spent $1500 on virtual reality gear (oculus rift, flight sim chair, saitek pro hotas, etc) and i think i would blow your mind if i introduced you to the size current VR DEV community that does spend thousands on equipment. I also bought all this gear just for one game (Elite dangerous), so im happy to help support and develop the new wave of VR, and trust me this time its going to stay and grow. the cost of hardware that makes this stuff has dropped like crazy and the prices are only falling faster as the tech is advanced purely because of this VR dev.

$ 4500.- for PC and VR gear != mainstream user

For all the virtually inclined it might be interesting to read this...

and lets be realistic, this wave of vr only came out last year. im willing to bet by the end of 2015 the price of this sort of VR gear will be as much as a high end flight stick around $200. that $600 for this current version is for their DEV kit so to speak just like the oculus, so the more positive we are about this stuff instead of complaining about pricing the quicker we will see developments.

and remember when you say "mainstream gamers" half of them dont even have pc's.... *cough* *cough* dirty console gamers, and god forbid mobile gamers. there is more then enough market at this point in time to sustain further development of VR systems (70% of that isnt even the consumer). thats right most of the income for these VR systems comes from other VR companies and mostly game companies, Crytek have recently dumped a large chunk of capitol into Oculus to develope a new VR cry engine made for making VR games.

there are a few of these sorts of things around. all it needs is a mount so you dont have to hold it.

but if were going this far we may as well look at the omni tread http://www.virtuix.com/ and when they get this working they it should ill be getting one. atm it doesnt have revers or strafe and the direction is slaved to your head tracker not body direction

Seeing that, I feel like Roger "I'm too old for this shit" Murtaugh... If I would want to get some physical exercise I'd rather grab me a paint gun and go out to play hide and seek with some other folks...

Although... thinking of a combination of that walking pod, a virtual cock controller and VR goggles being used to play XSP makes me giggle... just thinking of some neckbeard walking on that pod, then pushing his hips forth and back...

Yeah, i have to spend a great deal of time just keeping up with all the new VR equipment hitting the (pre market/prototypes) shelves. for someone that likes RPG or FPS the omni and control VR set up would be awesome, next gen eldar scrolls where you control the character in full. gone will be the days of unfit gamers lol should make picking up chicks easier, or even "honny im off to the gym" *gets inside VR rig, plays games*
