honestly though, why not share some of those pics and give us some of that information?

if they still working, and have been working for almost a year without any kind of update, why don't they share their progress? Are they afraid to have it stolen or copied?

I think they do it for the fun, not the money.

Ditto. Most indie devs would have at least given us a few official 'work in progress' blog updates by now. We need some updates so that we don't feel A: Like we've already been swindled and B: Aren't going to be swindled by the time 4.0 comes along.

Updates, please.

I'm a graphic designer by trade, with college training, a university degree and for the most part - self-taught with over 15 years hands on experience. When I pick up freelance contracts on top of my 9-5 in-house studio job, I do it for fun because the 9-5 work isn't as challenging or creative. However, I still need to charge some money to keep the lights on and pay for my expensive Adobe CC subscription, not to mention web hosting, domains, print and production costs etc. etc.

If they're doing it just for the fun of it, why did we all pay for it before? Does that mean we can get our money back?

Jokes aside, an update would be nice.

Some information on the update will come in the next month or so

Im guessing when they want to share the progress they want something to actually show for it
Rewriting the engine from scratch take alot of time and most of that time you wont be able to show anything since its just code and testing to see if that code works then realizing it takes longer then you thought to make that code

As for why i have not shared the images iv see its quite simple its not my update and its not my game its theirs and they will show what they have done when they are ready

Altho doing semi regular progress updates even if there is not much to show would still be good but they might have reasons why they don't

You do realize that they could have raked in at least 10 times the money by creating a patreon or make this pay to play/monthly fee, right? The reason they charged the modest amount they did was probably exactly because of what you mentioned: to pay for their expenses.

I totally get it, it's just frustrating for us consumers who've been hooked by a good product. Hell, I remember a time when even the "big" game devs put out regular news and updates, including basic screenshots of work in progress. Check out how the Unreal team are doing it with the latest Unreal Tournament. I guess I've been spoiled over the years  .

If they're a small team, they're going to be busy. They might even have families or long hours to work at their day jobs. Then there's your normal day-to-day stuff like stress and all the wonderful "curveballs" that life likes to throw at us poor humans from time to time.

It might also be worth relaying a message to them that they could feasibly charge twice the amount they did the first time round. Sure, they'd be doing it for fun but a little more money might go towards better equipment, better quality coffee (or "project fuel" as I like to call it. That is if they even drink coffee).

I have faith in their work to-date.

I do realize that, very much so :) . They could have charged double, without a patron, kickstarter, pay-to-play campaign or even micro-transactions and people would have paid (I know I would have), hence my "jokes aside" quote about getting our money back (I don't want my money back).

Art is never about the money. It's the age-old "starving artist" cliche isn't it. Indie (unsigned) musicians are the same - they love what they do, they're happy to be playing "for the exposure" but then, 5 years and 100's of hours of practice later, they realize they've spent all their day job income on all their instruments and equipment, tours, merchandise, CD duplication and pay-per-click advertising on social media without actually charging venues to play their music (even though they're the ones attracting customers to the venue who end up putting money behind the venue's bar.

Covering expenses is a good thing but a little profit not only drives incentive, it helps strengthen the possibility of being able to work smarter (not harder) and more efficiently on future releases.

With a small team like them, it's already great, to the point where it could even bring shame to those so called "Company" that rake in money and have pay subscription. Those game can't even light fire on a candle stick like this one. Even though we want more update, were not paying monthly, meaning, they don't have to make update every week like those people in patreon and such. I definitely grateful that I don't have to make payment monthly that's something I'm happy about these guys.
