Blizzard is not a good example. just see how long diablo 3 was expected and how a huge disappointment it was.
Yes game takes time to be done (coded & other stuff) properly.
But as everything, a few "hey guys, let's see what's going on" might be good for our spirit too. Even if this is just to say we're still debugging/coding the character customizable body... at least it gives a little something to let us know where they stand.

Just see how house party does it: a sneak preview form time to time doesn't take while but I really hope that after more than one year of almost zero communication they will have soon something to show.

Starcraft 3 is pretty much vaporware at this point... hope this isn't where XSP is heading to.

My point i tried to make is to make your own engine and then make a game takes a long time.

It is perfectly understandable that making a game engine from scratch and then making a game with it takes a long time and needs a lot of work, especially if there are a few people working on it. But what i can't understand is why do they refuse to post periodic status updates (even 1-2 times a month is fine). There is no need for images or videos, just some lines of text saying what they are doing, even if it is something like coding this or that. It won't take but a minute, but it reassures community that game is being worked on and keeps up peoples interest in great game.

Same as any other program : what are the milestones, what is done since last update, what was the problem encountered...
Even seamonkey is more verbose about their lack of release in the mozillazine.

They should at least try to keep their community (=paying customers) busy/active. That's very basic. Just look around here - most have left the ship long ago, simply because there is nothing to do, nothing to discuss. If at least the modding section would be filled with more guides, samples etc. but it's just as deserted.

they don't have a community manager, their game is hard to mod and hard to purchase compared to other games.

even the community game that offshoot is easier to mod.

Best guess at this point is that he's referring to House Party. Not sure that qualifies as a community game, but it's certainly this community where I first heard about it.
